Our shared goal is to improve P-20 education for all students in the Kansas City metropolitan area by providing powerful tools for data-driven educational policy research, evaluation, and implementation.
Understanding the factors that make for a successful transition to post-secondary training is critically important to regional economic development, which depends on a highly educated workforce. To this end, these pilot research studies were created to examine the dynamics of students’ transition from secondary education into post-secondary institutions using National Student Clearinghouse data and transcript information provided by two districts in the KC Metro Region. Our analyses focused on (a) patterns of post-secondary attendance and post-secondary retention for various demographic and academic groups and (b) academic and demographics factors related to the type of post-secondary institution students attend. This project is in an expansion phase as 5 additional districts and 1 charter school are being added to the research for 2011.
